These are the kinds of people who are more likely to spend more money on luxury services such as wedding or portrait photography." So by establishing a relationship with a club full of athletes, there is the potential that the savvy photographer could capitalise upon.
I asked Simon if he had any last advice for a photographer who is thinking about having a go at photographing a triathlon, "The best way of learning how to photograph an event like a triathlon is by doing one yourself. You learn where people slow down on the course, where they group up and all those little insider tricks that help you learn where to photograph them.
And not to mention of course, it's good for you!"

In the interests of research I found myself two triathlons to shoot on a weekend back in June. The first was a grass roots event hosted by BRAT Club in Birmingham where we experienced hail as the swimmers set off, but the next day I trotted off to Blenheim Palace where we had an absolute scorcher. At The Blenheim Triathlon, which this year was raising money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, I spent the day shooting documentary images of some of the 6,000 participants. The transition area for the athletes was in the palace courtyard, you couldn't wish for a more beautiful location and backdrop. The race itself takes place around the landscaped gardens of the palace and offers the opportunity for spectators to get their cameras out and snap away to practice their sports photography techniques. If you're in Oxfordshire there aren't many better opportunities to have a go at photographing the sports that make up a triathlon event, especially considering the grand setting of Blenheim Palace and its grounds.
